Game Flow: The San Antonio Spurs dominated the Mavs in the season opener in a game, where a majority of NBA fans are still talking about what they witnessed! WeM-VP set the tone early and showcased all of his talents with a 40pts, 15rbs, 3blks and 0 turnover game! Wemby joins an elite group of NBA bigs with a 40, 15 and 0 turnover performance. Only Moses Malone (twice), Shaq (3X) and Anthony Davis (3X) have accomplished such a feat. Wemby also scored the most points in a season opener by a Spur! Not to be undone, but second year guard SC the Castle in the Sky (S. Castle) paced the PG position with a 22pts, 7rbs and 6 asst. He was on attack mode the entire night! Dylan Harper also had a strong performance after shaking off his first game nerves by recording 15pts and a steady presence off the bench. KJ Desperado also contributed with 11pts and 5rbs and showed real maturity, by letting the game come to him and not rushing his shot selection. Vassle was also steady with 13pts and continues to hold down the 3/D wing position that is vital, if the Spurs want to make a push towards a post season run! Coach M. Johnson finally adjusted his rotations and as a result, good things followed!
Mavs: The Mavericks played a good first half but with no K. Irving the offense choked and ran dry. Having C. Flagg run the PG position is not a natural fit and the offense could not keep pace with the young Spurs. C. Flagg is and will be a great player in the NBA but he is playing out of position and Coach J. Kidd needs to identify that if the Mavs are to make a run this year. A. Davis was a monster as usual with a 22pts, 13rbs game, but as the game went on Wemby seemed to get more comfortable and A. Davis could not stop him.
Next: New Orleans at 6pm on Friday!
