San Antonio Spurs

Brandon Lucero here, Journalist and Photographer dedicated to covering the San Antonio Spurs. I served onboard the USS San Antonio while in the United States Navy! I utilized my GI Bill and went to college where I received my Associates and Bachelors degrees in Journalism and Photography!

Game Flow: The San Antonio Spurs stay unbeaten in the preseason and continue momentum to the regular season with an all around good game. The Spurs are 5-0 in preseason for the first time since 1997-98. The Alien lead the charge and set the tone early with 17pts and 12 rbs. Seven Spurs scored in double figures and followed Victor’s lead while playing great team ball! Coach Johnson even got onto his team and young players that will definitely be a real system starter that will contribute to what hopefully is a great season and a post season run. Both teams played hard and tested each other with starters playing for the Pacers until halftime and the Spurs until the 3rd quarter.

Opponent: The Pacers are without T. Haliburton but will surely be a scrappy team this year! B. Mathurin is still playing solid and seems to have more confidence after the finals run by the Pacers. P. Siakam (NMSU Alumni) is still a Dog and can help this Pacers team get to the post season while they wait for T. Haliburton to get back.

Final Assessment: The Spurs have a very deep team and seem to have addressed two things that stopped their momentum last year. 1. Having a backup big that can protect the paint when Wemby sits is huge. Even both bigs playing together in spurts has fans calling them French-Vanilla and a future force that the NBA has to deal with! 2. Leadership was on full display by both the coach and Star-Player in this contest! Something that past championship Spurs teams had for so many years. Having a coach hold others accountable and the franchise player setting the tone is a foundation for success in the NBA!
